Yoga Nidra

 What is Yoga Nidra? 

Yoga Nidra is a meditative practice that directly translates to “yogic sleep”. It’s a great practice for all people, regardless of their level of experience. Generally it is performed lying down on the back in savasana pose.

The primary goal of Yoga Nidra is to increase your awareness at the border between the waking and sleeping states of consciousness. The focus lies on accepting things as they are, rather than how you want them to be.  

Yoga Nidra and Mental Health 

Yoga Nidra is a practice of the mind, which directly targets your mental and emotional health. Therefore, it has particularly high value for individuals suffering from sleep deprivation, insomnia, trauma, anxiety, or depression.
By relaxing the Sympathetic Nervous System (the fight or flight response) and turning on the Parasympathetic Nervous System (the rest and digest response), Yoga Nidra brings you effortlessly into a natural state of self-healing.

Through the combination of deep rest and meditation, this practice provides your body and mind with the energy to withstand the difficulties of daily life. In our present society, it is easy to get stuck running on the hamster wheel of work, constantly striving for material success. Many people are unable to slow down and relax, yet this is necessary for the good functioning of our body and mind. Yoga Nidra helps to break this pattern by teaching you how to relax. Only 30 minutes is said to be equal to 4 hours of unconscious sleep, providing a deep and efficient rest to the body and mind. 

The mind is like a muscle, so it must also be properly exercised as well as properly relaxed.
